When algae seems to always find a way back into your swimming pool after every algae treatment you try, it’s time to bring out pool algae’s worst nightmare: metal algaecide. Metal algaecide for pools is the strongest algae treatment you can apply; it even destroys black algae.
Copper inside metal algaecide disrupts enzyme activity within the algae cell. When the algae cell’s enzymes are disrupted, the algae cell can’t stay alive. This is what makes metal algaecides for pools so effective.
Because metal algaecides are such strong pool chemicals, there are some risks to using them. If you don’t balance the pool water according to label instructions, overdose your pool, or leave metals in the pool water for too long, it could result in hard-to-remove pool stains on your pool surfaces.
If you realize that your pool’s algae problem just won’t go away despite other treatments and decide that metal algaecides are the cure, be sure to read the label carefully and follow the manufacturer’s instructions closely to get your pool water in tip-top shape.
Because of the super-strength in these metal algaecides (such as silver or copper), you won’t need a very large dose at all. Less is more in the case of metal algaecides; sometimes the dose is as little as 1 ounce per 10,000 gallons of pool water! So make sure you read the dosage amount on the label and measure properly.
Through careful pool water testing and measuring of metal algaecide treatments, it’s possible to keep the pool free of even the most stubborn pool algae. For help with treating stubborn cases of pool algae, call 888-718-7946 for advice from one of our Pool Care Experts.
