Solar Blankets: Extending Swimming Pool Season

Solar blankets extend swimming season by up to three months per year.

Warm weather in many parts of the South means that many families are still enjoying their swimming pools. However, cool evening temperatures can result in colder pool water than many people would like. Solar blankets are an affordable way of extending swimming pool season up to three extra months per year. Here are some features and benefits of solar blankets to consider:

  • Availability of Sunlight: The more direct sunlight your pool gets, the more free heat your solar blanket will trap from the sun to warm your pool. If your swimming pool gets very little direct sunlight, you may want to consider a pool heat pump or natural gas pool heater to extend your swimming season.
  • Less Heat Loss: Solar blankets don’t just use the sun to heat your pool; they keep pool water from losing heat on cool fall nights, providing excellent all-around temperature retention.
  • Less Evaporation:  One of the secondary benefits of solar blankets is reduced evaporation, which will also reduce pool chemical usage.
  • Less Debris in Your Pool: Solar blankets also reduce the amount of debris that gets into your pool, which cuts down on pool maintenance.
  • Warranty:  The longer the warranty, the more you’ll pay for your solar blanket, but you won’t have to replace it as quickly. If you don’t have any plans to move or to fill in your swimming pool, a longer warranty is the more economical choice.
  • Solar Blanket Reel: Consider purchasing a solar blanket reel with your cover; though it increases your investment, it will save you time and aggravation and decrease wear on your solar blanket.

A swimming pool is a great investment in your family’s health and happiness. Solar blankets allow you to take advantage of those benefits by extending swimming pool season up to three extra months per year.
